Vietnam  War

The 4th Battalion 9th Infantry Regiment was activated at Fort Wainwright, Alaska on 25 January, 1963. Soon after, they were assigned to the 171st Infantry Brigade, reporting on 20 May, 1963. On 14 January, 1966, the 4th Battalion 9th Infantry regiment was then assigned to the 25th Infantry Division located in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The Manchu’s deployed to Vietnam the following April with the 25th Infantry Division. The Manchu’s conducted Battalion size operations at Asheville, Wahiawa, Jolier I and II, Helemano, and Kahana I and II. The 4th Battalion 9th Infantry Regiment was awarded two Presidential Citations and credited with 12 Campaign Streamers during the Vietnam War. Three Manchus were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor: SPC Nicholas J. Cutinha (2 March 1968), 1LT Ruppert L. Sargent (15 March 1967), and 1SG Maximo Yabes (26 February 1967).
