CPT Kyle Simmons
Captain Simmons hails from Baltimore, Maryland, and began his military career upon commissioning from Furman University in 2017. His education includes completing the Infantry Officer Basic and Maneuver Captains Career Courses and qualifications from the U.S. Army Airborne School, U.S. Army Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leaders Course, U.S. Army Pathfinder School, and U.S. Army Ranger School. Captain Simmons has held leadership roles throughout his service, including Rifle Platoon Leader in the 10th Mountain Division (IBCT), Ranger Reconnaissance Surveillance and Target Acquisition Platoon Leader, and Ranger Company Executive Officer in the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment (Airborne), Brigade Assistant Operations Officer of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division (SBCT). Most recently, he serves at the B Company, 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment Company Commander. Captain Simmons has repeatedly deployed to Afghanistan to support OPERATION FREEDOM’S SENTINEL and OPERATION RESOLUTE SUPPORT. Other notable assignments while deployed include service as a Targeting Operations Support Officer, U.S. Liaison Officer to the NATO Special Operations Component Command – Afghanistan, and Strike Force Executive Officer. Captain Simmons’ awards and decorations are commensurate with his service. Captain Simmons is joined in service by his devoted wife, Madison, a proud member of the 4th Engineer Battalion at Fort Carson, CO. While they have no children, the couple cherishes their rescued Plott Hound, Maggie, who brings joy and companionship into their lives. |

First Sergeant Averkamp enlisted in the United States Army out of Dubuque, Iowa. He attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, in November of 2002. His previous units and assignments include 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment,Fort Riley, Kansas, where he served as a machine gunner and Team Leader;Dallas Recruiting Battalion, where he served as a Recruiter; 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, where he served as Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant; 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, where he served as an Observer Coach Trainer; 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, where he served as Platoon Sergeant and First Sergeant; University of Portland ROTC, where he served as the Senior Military Science Instructor. His deployments includes two tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and one tour in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. First Sergeant Averkamp’s professional military education includes the Primary Leadership Development Course, Advanced Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, Master Leader Course, Air Assault, and Pathfinder School. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with five oak leaf clusters, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Award, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Air Assault Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Gold Recruiter Badge, Sergeant Audie Murphy Award, and Order of Saint Maurice. First Sergeant Averkamp is married to Sophie Averkamp; they have a son (Daniel) and a daughter (Ariana). |
